Electronic LED Signs for Automated Road Traffic Control

Syscom Engineering successfully delivered a project for the supply, installation, configuration, testing, and commissioning of programmable LED electronic message signs for police vehicles operated by the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior. The project was financed through the Road Safety Fund and aimed to modernize the technical equipment used for road traffic control and traffic management.

As part of the project, programmable LED message signs were supplied and integrated into police vehicles, enabling the display of a variety of warning and information messages for road users. These included “POLICE FOLLOW ME,” “POLICE SLOW DOWN,” “POLICE DO NOT FOLLOW THE CONVOY,” and “POLICE STOP,” available in both Bulgarian and English.

The project also included theoretical and practical training for 60 officers from the General Directorate National Police (GDNP), the Sofia Directorate of Interior (SDVR), and the regional directorates of the Ministry of Interior. The training covered system operation, maintenance, and technical support. Following successful deployment, the solution entered a 24-month warranty period.

SCOPE

The scope of the project was to enhance road safety by implementing a modern technological solution that enables effective real-time communication between police officers and road users. The solution supports safer traffic management, improves traffic enforcement operations, and contributes to more efficient road traffic control.

PURPOSE:

The project enhances road safety by enabling effective real-time communication between police officers and road users. A total of 501 programmable LED electronic message signs were integrated into the newest police vehicles of the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior and are used daily for traffic enforcement, traffic regulation, and emergency traffic management.

The solution provides:

• Improved road safety through clear and highly visible visual guidance for drivers.
• More effective traffic enforcement and faster communication with road users.
• Enhanced traffic management during roadside inspections, traffic incidents, and specialized police operations.
• Increased visibility and recognition of police vehicles under all operating conditions.
